Man charged with murder after death in Auckland park

A man has been charged with murder and a scene guard is in place at a West Auckland park after a man's death overnight.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at about 12.10am.

"Police were notified... of a person who had been found unresponsive at the Royal Reserve park in Massey," a spokesperson said.

"Ambulance staff attended, but sadly they were pronounced deceased at the scene."

In a later update, Detective Inspector Aaron Proctor confirmed a 26-year-old man had been arrested after the male victim's death.

The 26-year-old will appear in the Waitākere District Court today charged with murder.

"We know this will have been a shock to the community, however we would like to reassure them this appears to be an isolated incident.

"An increased police presence will remain in the area while we complete our scene examination, which will likely conclude tomorrow.

"This is a tragic incident and we are ensuring there is support in place for those closest to the victim," he said.

Police won't be releasing the victim's identity at this stage, Proctor added.

"We are continuing to make inquiries, but also want to encourage anyone with information to get in contact with us.

"Even the smallest detail could bring justice for the deceased."

He urged anyone at the Beauchamp Drive park or in the wider area "including in and around Reverie Place" at the time to come forward.

People are asked to call 105 or to provide information anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
