Low cloud in Wellington has seen a number of regional Air New Zealand flights delayed or cancelled today.

The airline said 16 flights in and out of the capital have been cancelled due to the weather.

A Wellington Airport spokesperson said jet flights are still able to operate.

Air New Zealand's head of flight operations Captain Hugh Pearce said: "We'd like to thank customers for their patience and understanding while we work through this weather disruption."

The airport advised passengers to check directly with Air New Zealand for the latest flight information.
