Large search underway for missing swimmer at Hastings beach

A large search is underway for a man who went missing in the water at a Hastings beach this afternoon.

Police said the man "got into trouble" after entering the water around 3pm at Ocean Beach.

"He was last seen around 300m north of where he entered the water," a police spokesperson said.

"Hawke’s Bay Surf Club and the Hawke’s Bay Coastguard have are assisting in locating the man, and volunteers are walking the beach."

A helicopter is also up in the air aiding in the search.
