Around 3.19am this morning a group of people broke into a commercial property on Great South South, Takanini.

Two youths who allegedly stole electronic items in Auckland early this morning threw some of the bounty out of a stolen vehicle's window as they fled police.

Around 3.19am a group of people had broken into a commercial property on Great South South, Takanini. Counties Manukau South Area Commander Inspector Joe Hunter said a stolen vehicle was used.

"The offenders have tied a rope or chain from the vehicle to the cage covering the rear window and ripped it off.

"From there, the offenders have smashed through the window and six of them have entered," he said.

"They have proceeded to break the glass displays and take various electronic items."

When a police car patrolling the area arrived two youths got into the stolen vehicle and fled the scene.

With the police in pursuit, several of the stolen items were thrown out of the window.

Hunter said the pursuit was abandoned "due to the manner of driving" but officers later came across the stolen vehicle in a ditch.

A police dog team tracked the youths around 2km down a rough track, eventually catching up with the pair and taking them into custody.

Hunter said charges are being considered for the pair. The stolen vehicle has been recovered.

However, four offenders are yet to be caught.

"A police investigation is ongoing," Hunter said.
