A UK man, inspired by the romantic comedy The Holiday, is offering a home swap with a stranger for the holiday season.

Actor Jules Knight posted the video on TikTok, inviting anyone in the world to partake in a "house swap" with him, the video attracted more than 750,000 views in four days.

Knight told Breakfast he has been "inundated with offers" and had no idea the video would become so huge online.

"I’ve been going through the messages... I think there’s about 5000 direct messages that I’ve had... I’ve been going through them one by one and there’s been lots of nice offers," he said.

Knight said he was inspired by the 2006 American romantic comedy The Holiday, in which two lovelorn women from opposite sides of the world arrange a home exchange to escape heartbreak during the Christmas and holiday season.

"It’s a movie everyone is talking about at the moment because it’s Christmas, and I’d probably seen someone use the music recently.

"I just thought why don’t I make a little video about a house swap and maybe I’ll just use the music from the movie, so that’s how it came about but it’s really taken off."

Actor Jules Knight posted his house swap idea on Tiktok.

Knight said he’s received messages from people in places such as Barbados in the Carribean, Cape Town in South Africa, Bali in Indonesia, Australia and even New Zealand asking to switch, but warned his UK home might not be the place for a tropical getaway.

“When it’s dry and sunny it’s very beautiful here... so I would stay in a shoe box as long as there’s a bit of sun,” he joked.

When asked how likely he was to select New Zealand as his dream house swap destination, Knight said he was "keen" as he’s been here once before.

“I used to be in a band, and we did a gig in Arrowtown. We were there for two nights, and I loved it,” he said, “maybe this is the opportunity to come back.”
