Hilary Barry joined Breakfast this morning to pay tribute to Matty McLean and revisit some of the highlights from his time at TVNZ.
The Seven Sharp host gave McLean a huge hug when she entered the set.
"I can't believe you're going," she told McLean. "I just want to start with some of your first weather forecasting."
The presenter's weather debut included "a couple of mistakes", he admitted on air at the time.
"Do you know the funny thing?" McLean said this morning. "I didn't even get any better than that."
Barry called him the "master of covering a mistake".
The next clip showed McLean giving the audience hints so they could guess where he was presenting from.
Little did he realise, a massive sign in the back of the shot read "NAPIER".
"I was meant to eke out this content for an entire morning, and I blew it in the first cross," he laughed today.
