Inspector Jason Edwards said a group of youths were disturbed around 2am allegedly trying to break into a vehicle.

An 11-year-old was among eight youths arrested after vehicles were allegedly broken into in Auckland's Westgate overnight.

Inspector Jason Edwards said a group of youths were disturbed around 2am allegedly trying to break into a vehicle.

The police Eagle helicopter located a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident travelling on nearby Zefiro Drive.

Edwards said the vehicle then accelerated to double the posted speed limit.

A police car attempted to stop the vehicle but it didn't stop, leading to a pursuit.

"The vehicle then travelled on the Northwestern Motorway towards the city before [it was abandoned] on the motorway near Huruhuru Rd," Edwards said.

"All involved were apprehended a short time later without further incident."

Two boys, aged 14 and 15, are due to appear in the Waitākere Youth Court.

Six other youths, the youngest aged 11, have been referred to the Youth Aid.

"I would like to acknowledge the community's vigilance in reporting this suspicious activity to us, so we can respond," Edwards said.

"A good description was provided to police, and this assisted the Eagle crew when they arrived in the area."
