To reduce her jail sentence, an Ohio judge ordered a woman to work at a fast food restaurant for two months after she assaulted a Chipotle worker.

A US woman was served a unique punishment after being convicted of assault for hurling a burrito bowl at a Chipotle worker, burning her face.

An Ohio judge ordered Rosemary Hayne, 39, to work at a fast food job for two months in a deal that reduces her jail time.

Hayne was captured in a viral video screaming at a Chipotle employee before throwing her food in the worker's face, and was initially set to pay a fine and serve 180 days in jail with 90 days suspended.

However, Judge Timothy Gilligan had an unusual idea.

"You didn't get your burrito bowl the way you like it, and this is how you respond?" he told Hayne at her sentencing in Parma, Ohio.

"This is not 'Real Housewives of Parma.' This behaviour is not acceptable," he said, according to local Fox News affiliate WJW.

Gillian told Hayne she could reduce her jail sentence by 60 days if she agreed to work at least 20 hours a week at a fast food restaurant for two months, to which she agreed.

In court, Hayne apologised and tried explaining her reasoning behind screaming at the 26-year-old Chipotle employee Emily Russell.

"If I showed you how my food looked and how my food looked a week later from that same restaurant, it's disgusting looking," Hayne said, according to WJW.

"I bet you won't be happy with the food you are going to get in the jail," Judge Gilligan hit back.

Russell told the court she had been traumatised by the incident and has since left her role, also telling the Washington Post she was intervening after Hayne began yelling at a 17-year-old employee.

"I was so embarrassed and in shock," she told the outlet, "I couldn't believe my customers had to witness that."
