A fire in Paraparaumu Beach last night has claimed a life, police said this morning.
A police spokesperson said officers assisted Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ) at a Manly Street property shortly after 6pm last night.
"A person at the address was located in critical condition, but despite best efforts of medical personnel to revive them, sadly died at the scene," a police statement read.
"Police will be working alongside FENZ investigators to determine the circumstances of the fire."
FENZ told 1News that two crews suppressed the "small fire" in eight minutes and the blaze has been deemed suspicious
"There are specialist fire investigation crews responding," a spokesperson said.
