A person was allegedly stabbed in Onehunga this morning, with police arresting an individual at the scene.
Police said they were called to an Onehunga Mall premises at about 10.50am following reports that a person had an injury to their stomach.
"One person was arrested at the scene," a spokesperson said, "Police were following lines of inquiry to locate another individual believed to be involved, and also were to follow up with the victim in hospital."
Hato Hone St John told 1News it responded with one ambulance, two rapid response units and one manager.
"We assessed, treated, and transported one patient in a serious condition to Middlemore Hospital," a spokesperson said.
A witness told 1News the incident was a stabbing near St Peters Anglican Church, and there had been a "gathering of persons" by a park bench.
"We had a gentleman who was basically mouthing off," they said.
"There was a stabbing that took place. The [attacker and victim] did seem to know each other.
"There's a witness that's been helping [police] to try and locate the knife.
"This is the first time we've had an incident of that severity here."
