Pedestrian killed after being hit by bus at Auckland station

Emergency services respond to a fatal collision between a pedestrian and a bus at Albany Bus Station on Auckland's North Shore.

A woman has been killed after being hit by a bus at a station on Auckland’s North Shore this afternoon.

Emergency services responded to the incident at Albany Bus Station shortly after 2pm on Saturday.

Police confirmed officers were in attendance and that cordons had been put in place.

St John said that three vehicles attended the incident: a rapid response unit, a manager, and an ambulance, which was still on the scene as of 3.45pm.

Ritchies Albany depot confirmed that a Ritchies bus was involved in the collision.

Auckland Transport (AT) said the Albany Bus Station would be closed while police conducted a scene investigation. It has since reopened.

“We are assisting police with their investigation, and the bus driver involved has been stood down and will be supported by the bus company during this difficult period,” said AT director of public transport and active modes Stacey van der Putten.

“Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the woman killed as well as those at the scene today who did their best to help.

"Although we can't speculate about the cause of this afternoon's incident, we want to remind people of the importance of allowing extra time and being patient when travelling around Auckland at this hectic time of year."
