An investigation has been launched after a fatal hit-and-run on an Auckland road overnight, with police now appealing for sightings of the vehicle believed to be involved.
Police were called to the scene on O'Brien Rd in Lucas Heights, near Albany, at 12.30am, where a member of the public found a man unresponsive.
The man died at the scene.
In a statement this afternoon, Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Nimmo said police have completed a scene examination and located parts from a Mazda motor vehicle which is believed to have come from the vehicle involved.
"Police are now seeking the community's assistance in identifying anyone with, or any sightings of, a Mazda vehicle with recent front damage, which may have been travelling in the wider Coatesville area during the early hours of this morning," Nimmo said.
He said anyone in the area who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information — including CCTV or dashcam footage — is asked to contact police immediately.
Nimmo earlier said the driver of the vehicle may have panicked following the incident, and is urging them to make contact with police.
The vehicle also may have noticeable damage.
Anyone with information, or who has footage from between 11pm-12.30am in the area last night, is asked contact police via 105 or update the file online, referencing the case number 231208/4800.
Last Thursday, also on the North Shore, a body was found on the side of the road in Beach Haven.
