Steve Maharey quits as chair of Pharmac, ACC

Steve Maharey, the chairman of both Pharmac and ACC, has resigned from his positions on both organisations' boards.

Both the Health Minister Dr Shane Reti and Minister for ACC Matt Doocey announced today they had accepted his resignation.

“Steve Maharey tendered his resignation to the Government by way of a letter to Associate Minister of Health David Seymour,” Reti said.

Both ministers acknowledged Maharey’s service to the organisations.

The government will appoint a new chair to each board in “due course”.

Until then, deputy chair of Pharmac Dr Peter Bramley and ACC deputy chair Dr Tracey Batten, will fill his two roles.

The former Labour minister had previously offered his resignation in March, after columns he wrote came to light, in the wake of Te Whatu Ora chair Rob Campbell being sacked over a series of political comments he made.
