A Burger Fuel-branded car reportedly crashed into a brass band at Avondale's Santa Parade.

Two pedestrians who were injured when they were hit by a Burger Fuel-branded vehicle at an Auckland Christmas parade have been released from hospital.

Police said on Saturday a car experienced a "mechanical malfunction" and collided with two pedestrians standing in front of the stage on Great North Rd around 11.45am.

Three people inside the vehicle were hurt when they were assaulted by people in the crowd.

Inspector Jacqui Whittaker said it was fortunate the pair who were hit by the car didn't suffer serious injuries.

“At this point police have now established that the victims inside the vehicle involved were actually still seated in the vehicle when they were assaulted.”

The vehicle involved was still being examined and police are asking witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to come forward.
