The new government was finally announced today – bringing an end to 40-odd days of coalition negotiations between National, ACT and New Zealand First.

A hot-button issue during those negotiations was who would get a seat around the cabinet table as ministers.

With the three parties announcing their joint plans, a colourful cabinet has also been assembled, with representatives from all parties.

The new cabinet will be made up of 20 MPs, 14 from National, three from ACT and three from New Zealand First.

There are eight ministers outside parliament - five from National, two from ACT and one from NZ First.

NZ First and ACT will also each have a parliamentary under-secretary.

National's Gerry Brownlee will be nominated as Speaker of the House.

National Party ministers

Christopher Luxon - Prime Minister, Minister for National Security and Intelligence, Minister Responsible for Ministerial Services.

Nicola Willis - Minister of Finance Minister, for the Public Service, Minister for Social Investment, Associate Minister of Climate Change
