Local authorities in Tillburg, the Netherlands are warning people to keep their distance after a deadly green mamba snake escaped a home in Tilburg, CNN reports.
People are being warned to keep their distance and avoid approaching the highly venomous snake which is between 1.8 and 2 metres long.
In the unlikely event someone is bitten by the snake, they should immediately call the emergency services, a municipality spokesperson told CNN.
The snake, which reportedly has a fondness for warm, dark spaces, is unlikely to have slithered out of the house into the cold Dutch winter.
The spokesperson did not specify which species the missing snake belonged to, but all three types of mamba are native to Africa, and can kill within days with its fast acting venom.
It is rare the snake attacks humans, and instead preys on birds, small mammals and lizards, according to CNN.
