Hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg claimed on social media last week he was "giving up smoke" — and now it appears it was right of people not to take the announcement at face value.
The 52-year-old rapper has been a long-standing advocate for cannabis, making the drug a significant part of his image and lifestyle during his 31-year career. He once claimed he smoked 81 joints a day and paid someone to roll them.
"After much consideration and conversation with my family, I've decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time," Snoop wrote on social media.
But the real reason for his announcement was made clear yesterday when the doggfather of rap revealed it was all part of a marketing campaign for a smokeless stove.
The tongue-in-cheek video starts with Snoop Dogg saying: "I'm giving up smoke."
"I know what you're thinking, 'Snoop, smoke is kind of your whole thing….'
"I'm done with the coughing and my clothes smelling all sticky-icky. I'm going smokeless."
The background behind him then lightens and a camera pans to a Solo Stove Fixed fire, which he is promoting.
