A large vegetation fire in Christchurch's Port Hills has been contained, with firefighters working to dampen down hot spots.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) said it was first made aware of the fire at 11.15am.
Smoke could be seen billowing from the hills and part of State Highway 76 was closed.
In an update this afternoon, a Fire and Emergency spokesperson told 1News the fire is now contained.
Three helicopters are "still actively working", but are expected to leave the scene around 3pm.
Four fire trucks remain at the scene.
Several high country crews are en route to help dampen down hot spots.
Locals have been asked to stay away while crews continue to work at the scene.
