November 17, 2023

For the first time a giant Boeing 787 Dreamliner has landed in Antarctica.

The flight was a charter carrying 45 scientists and tonnes of equipment for the Norwegian Polar Institute. The Norse Atlantic Airways flight touched down at Troll Airfield in Queen Maud Land.

"We are incredibly honoured to be a part of this piece of history, marking a very special milestone for Norse," the low-cost, long-haul carrier said on X.

"We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Norwegian Polar Research Institute who entrusted us with this important flight."

The runway at Troll is 3300m long and is on glacial blue ice.
