A flight en route to Belgium has been forced to turn around after a horse got loose in the cargo hold.
The Air Atlanta Icelandic cargo flight was on its way to Liege in Belgium from New York City when the incident occurred.
After two hours in the air, the horse broke from his stall, running around the cargo hold causing chaos.
In audio from the cockpit, the crew can be heard saying: “We are a cargo plane; we have a live animal … a horse onboard the airplane.
"The horse managed to escape his stall. We don't have a problem flying-wise, but we need to return back to New York.
“We cannot get the horse back secured."
On the trip back to New York, the crew had to dump 20 tonnes of fuel to successfully land.
"We're too heavy," the pilot said.
Upon its arrival home, a vet was promptly called to look after the animal.
While travelling in the air, horses are normally secured in specially made boxes – it remains unclear how the horse managed to escape.
