Whovians rejoice! For the first time, a major exhibition on hit television series Dr Who is leaving the UK — and it's coming to Aotearoa.
New Zealand fans will have the chance to explore the Doctor's world at Tākina, Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre from June 1 next year. The exhibit is called Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder: Where Science Meets Fiction.
The iconic programme – which follows the Doctor's adventures through space and time in the TARDIS – first aired in 1963.
Wellington City Council, WellingtonNZ and Sarner International joined forces to bring the display from the other side of the world.
"Since the beginning of the show science has been prominent in the development of key stories and characters.
"This exhibition enables visitors to explore scientific themes such as whether time travel is actually possible, and why the TARDIS is bigger on the inside," a statement announcing the exhibit explained.

"Part of the exhibition is the Monster Vault where visitors will come face to face with many of the Doctor's alien adversaries and learn about their connections with real science."
It's developed in collaboration with BBC Studios. Other themes will include AI, DNA manipulation and cloning.
Wellington Mayor Tory Whanau said it's "great" to see the exhibit landing in the capital.
"Doctor Who is arguably one of the most iconic television shows in history," WellingtonNZ's Warrick Dent added.
"The programme has been incredibly popular for six decades and we can't wait to welcome its fans to Tākina."
Fiona Lang, general manager at BBC Studios Australia and New Zealand, echoed Whanau and Dent's excitement.
"We're so pleased to bring this fascinating exhibition to New Zealand," she said.
"So many Kiwis have grown up with the Doctor and the show's regenerations mean there are always new fans being introduced to the wonders of the Doctor's journey through time and space."
