National leader Christopher Luxon, ACT leader David Seymour and NZ First leader Winston Peters have met at a hotel in central Auckland today.

The meeting was less than an hour in duration.

1News understands Peters and Seymour have now left the hotel, but it's believed Luxon has remained behind.

It's the first time the three leaders - the three key players in the next government - have met in the same room.

Up until now, Luxon and Peters had met, as well as Luxon and Seymour, and Seymour and Peters, but not all three at once.

It was confirmed with a photo from Winston Peters' X (formerly Twitter) account this morning at 9.30.

The three appear to have met at a hotel, but Peters' post did not come with any text, just the photo.

National leader Christopher Luxon also posted the photo five minutes later, saying it was a "good meeting" in the post.

"There's still work to do — but making serious progress to forming a government to deliver for Kiwis."

The confirmation of the three-leader meeting comes as Luxon had to cancel his trip to APEC this week as a coalition agreement had not yet been made and ministerial warrants issued.

The Asia Pacific Economic Forum would have been Luxon's first opportunity to rub shoulders with other world leaders.

Yesterday Luxon told 1News he had wanted to go but forming a government was a priority.
