Luxon, Seymour arrive in Auckland ahead of meeting with Peters

ACT Party leader David Seymour arrives in Auckland ahead of a meeting with Christopher Luxon and Winston Peters.

Prime Minister-elect Christopher Luxon and ACT leader David Seymour have flown in to Auckland this evening ahead of a meeting between the three coalition party leaders.

1News understands Prime Minister-elect Christopher Luxon and NZ First leader Winston Peters have spoken over the phone several times today.

Luxon and ACT leader David Seymour met in the capital earlier in the day.

Seymour and Luxon flew in to Auckland this evening, but Luxon would not confirm if he was in the city to meet with Peters.

"We’ve had a great day. We’ve had a great series of engagements with both parties and it’s been fantastic," he said.

The ACT leader told reporters the party "had great meetings with the Nats today" and were "making progress".

"Not everyone showed up but hey, what can you do?" Seymour said.

"We'll see what happens tomorrow."

The three leaders will meet in person tomorrow.

It comes as the New Zealand First caucus met for a meal at a Chinese restaurant in Wellington this evening.

"It’s time for the kauri tree from Whananāki to meet with the totara trees," deputy leader Shane Jones told 1News following the dinner.

He said it was important for the meeting to take place in a "space that’s conducive to a successful outcome".

When asked why Peters wasn’t in Wellington today, Jones said his leader has all the information he required from his caucus.

"The manifestos of the various parties, they were well and truly traversed and when you have negotiations, it’s a bit like the ebb and flow of the tide," he said.

"I’m confident in short order that it’ll be revealed as to how the various interests have been aligned."

He continued: "The true alignment will be evident once our Government is sworn in, and we prevail for nine years."
