A driver is being sought by police after a 6-year-old boy was the victim of a hit-and-run in Whanganui yesterday evening.
The incident happened at around 7.45pm when a group of “young children” were walking home after playing at a park in the Castlecliff area.
While crossing the street near the intersection of Rangiora Street, a 6-year-old boy was struck.
“The driver of the car did not stop, and the boy was transported to hospital in a critical condition,” police said.
The boy was hit by a small “light blue” hatchback-sized car.
Police are now asking anyone who was travelling in the area and surrounding streets at the time, including Cornfoot, Manuka and Poulson Street, “to contact Police if you saw the vehicle”.
“Police also ask residents if they could check any CCTV cameras and pass the footage on to Police if the vehicle is captured.”
They are also asking for anyone who might have seen a car that matches the description “likely with a damage to the exterior of the car”, to contact them.
“To the driver of the vehicle - we understand you are likely shocked and distressed by the incident, but we urge you to do the right thing and come forward.”
Police are asking anyone with information to call them on 105.
