Auckland double-murder accused keeps name secret for now

Police in Greenhithe after the discovery of Mei Han Cong's body

A 42-year-old man charged with murdering 66-year-old Fuk-Fu Joseph Kwok and 67-year-old Mei Han Chong, has been granted name suppression in the Auckland District Court.

Kwok was found dead in the family home in Ellerslie on Monday. Chong's body was found this morning in a rural part of Greenhithe, in northwest Auckland.

Their family car was also found at an address in Glenfield on the North Shore. Its number plates had been changed. Police searched "hours and hours" of CCTV to locate the car.

The accused was arrested in Hamilton last night and appeared via audio-visual link from prison.

Police aren't ruling out further charges or arrests. The nature of Kwok's injuries suggested more than one person may have been involved, Beard has said, describing Kwok's multiple stab wounds as "violent" and "brutal".

Police believe Kwok was killed after midnight on Saturday.

Anyone with information is urged to call 105, referencing file number 231106/8053.
