Police have released the name of the man found dead at a home in the Auckland suburb of Ellerslie on Monday evening.

He was 66-year-old Fuk-Fu Joseph Kwok.

Officers were called to the Celtic Crescent property at about 8pm on Monday, after reports a man was found "unresponsive" at the home by a family member.

A police spokesperson yesterday said the victim's injuries were "violent, and consistent with foul play".

It's believed Kwok died before Sunday afternoon as a result of his injuries.

A homicide investigation is open and police enquiries will continue today.

It comes as police have appealed for the public's help locating the man's wife, Mei Han Chong, 67.

Police say she could be a suspect or a victim.

"Police and victim support are working with the whānau through the tragedy they have suffered," Detective Inspector Scott Beard said.

"Police continue to appeal to the public for any information that may assist us with our investigation."

Anyone with information was urged to call 105.

Chong was last seen at the home shared by the couple, who lived alone, over the weekend.

She is described as being "of Asian descent, small in stature and has short dark grey hair and will likely be wearing glasses".

And police are also appealing for any sightings of the couple's blue Kia Rio that was last seen at the property.

The vehicle's registration reads NJN927.

"No piece of information is insignificant as we work to determine exactly what has occurred," Beard said yesterday.
