An Australian man has survived a crocodile attack after biting the animal back.
Northern Territory cattle producer Colin Deveraux, in his 60s, spent nearly a month in hospital after the attack.
He's lucky to be alive – and it's down to an unusual tactic.
Deveraux told the ABC he was working when the crocodile struck. He had stopped by a billabong on his way to do some fencing.
"The dirty bastard latched onto my right foot," he told the Australian broadcaster.
"It was a big grab and he shook me like a rag doll and took off back into the water, pulling me in."
The farmer first tried kicking the 3.2-metre saltwater monster.
"I was in such an awkward position," he explained. "By accident my teeth caught his eyelid.
"It was pretty thick, like holding onto leather, but I jerked back on his eyelid and he let go.
"He chased me for a bit, maybe four metres, but then stopped."
Deveraux was left with serious wounds on his leg and ended up needing a skin graft.
"It all happened in about eight seconds I reckon," he said.
"If he had bitten me somewhere else it would have been different.
"Biggest problem was having to clear out all the bad bacteria... so all of the billabong water full of mud, goose s**t, duck s**t, and crocodile teeth marks."
