Three people needed medical attention after a fire in molten aluminium at a commercial property in Auckland’s Avondale.

Three fire trucks, alongside ambulances, were called to the Patiki Road address shortly after 9am due to a "small fire in the molten aluminium".

While the fire is "small and contained", posing no risk to other properties, three people needed treatment.

St John said one had been rushed to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.

Another was taken to Waitakere Health in moderate condition, and another was taken to a nearby medical centre.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said there is “no concern for toxicity” but “we are wearing standard breathing apparatus as is our protocol”.
