TVNZ has announced it is cutting the number of people on its executive team from 10 to seven as part of its moves to cut costs.

Two current exec members - chief people officer Nicola Simpson and marketing director Jonathan Symons – are leaving the media company.

TVNZ last week reported its revenue had fallen $14.2 million year-on-year to $327.6m.

New exec roles are being created which merge some responsibilities, interim chief executive Brent McAnulty said.

The newly created roles are Jodi O’Donnell as chief revenue officer (covering commercial and marketing), Kym Niblock as chief digital officer (technology and transformation) and McAnulty as chief operating officer (legal, people and operations).

Recruitment is ongoing for a permanent CEO.

Phil O’Sullivan remains as executive editor of news and current affairs and Nevak Rogers continues as acting chief content officer.

In a statement, the company said: "TVNZ is grateful for the immense contribution Nicola and Jonathan have made to the business."

It said the new structure would “better align the business with its strategic priorities and deliver a sustainable digital-first business”.

The annual results showed the state owned company’s profit fell from $6.2m to $1.7m in the 2023 financial year, with a fall in television advertising the biggest contributor to revenue declines.

Chief transformation officer Cate Calver is leaving at the end of the year for a new role.
