A pedestrian has been killed in a single-vehicle crash on Te Awamutu's main street, police have confirmed.
The woman died at the scene of the crash around 10.45am this morning, and Alexandra Street remains blocked.
"Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing. The road remains blocked, and diversions are in place," police said.
"Police understand this was a distressing crash to witness."
The pedestrian was an 87-year-old Ōhaupō woman, Te Awamutu Courier reports. The newspaper reported that a truck struck the woman.
People who witnessed the crash and are feeling distressed, or want someone to speak to, have been urged to contact Victim Support.
