Holiday road toll hits four after Canterbury crash

One person died after their car rolled in Waitaki's Kurow about 9.30pm last night.

The Labour weekend road toll is at four after one person died in a crash in Canterbury last night.

Police said the person died after their car rolled in Waitaki's Kurow about 9.30pm.

"Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are underway," a police spokesperson said.

"The road remains closed while the serious crash unit examine the scene, and diversions remain in place."

It comes after three people died in other crashes over the long weekend.

One person was killed after being struck by a car in Northland's Waipapa, a cyclist died after a crash in Dunedin and one person died in a single-vehicle crash in Waikato.
