Youth arrests made after multiple ram raids in Napier

Police are suggesting motorists use a steering wheel lock to deter offenders looking for vehicles to use in ram-raids.

Arrests have been made after multiple ram raids occurred in Napier this week, one of which caused concern for police after a large amount of blood was found at the scene.

Police arrested a 14-year-old, who was allegedly linked to four recent ram raids and multiple "unlawful takings" of vehicles throughout Hawke's Bay, Detective Senior Sergeant James Keene said.

He is due to appear in Hastings District Court.

Police also found a stolen vehicle involved in the ram raid of Big Barrel Carlyle. Across town, another Big Barrel liquor store had been ram raided.

There were three people in the car at the time of the Big Barrel Carlyle St burglary.

One of the occupants, 13, had injured his ankle, allegedly while kicking in a glass door, and required medical attention.

Police are still looking for other parties involved in the robberies, and have asked anyone with information to contact them via the 105 number and quote file number 231020/3632.
