1 dead after gyrocopter crash near Blenheim

One person has died following a crash involving a light aircraft at an airfield near Blenheim this afternoon.

The crash occurred around 1.20pm at the Omaka Aerodrome.

"The sole occupant of the aircraft has sadly died," a police spokesperson said.

1News understands the aircraft involved was a gyrocopter.

Police will refer the incident to the Civil Aviation Authority.
