A Napier couple who won $6 million in Saturday's election night Lotto Powerball draw "completely forgot" to check their numbers as they watched the votes come in.
Lotto said the couple, who wish to remain anonymous, are regular players that purchased a Triple Dip "a couple of days" before the draw.
"We were watching the election results on Saturday night and completely forgot about the draw," the woman said.
"Then we got a pop-up on the phone that said a ticket from Greenmeadows New World had won Powerball, and we thought, 'that's where we got ours from!'
"We quickly checked our ticket on the MyLotto app and couldn’t believe it when all our numbers lined up — the very first line of our ticket."
She didn't know what the term Major Prize Winner meant so called her mum for advice.
It was only after her mum read back the numbers to her that the couple realised they had won a life-changing amount.
The couple were too excited to sleep that night, and were up early the next day.
"We got up early to watch the All Blacks and celebrate with our family over breakfast," the woman said.
The couple are "really happy" with the win and are busy planning their future.
"We plan to carry on working. But now, we can work because we love what we do instead of worrying about money."
The couple also wants to travel the world: "We plan to buy a map and pin all the places we want to visit."
