Mercury tablets potentially inside bags of masoor dal

A specific batch of masoor dal produced by Krishna Spices N Food has been recalled due to the possible presence of tablets containing mercury.

The dal, imported from India, is sold at Krishna Spices N Food on 95 Main St, Upper Hutt, Wellington.

The affected product comes in 500g and 1kg plastic bags with a best before date marked 8/2025, the Ministry for Primary Industries said on its website.

"Affected product should not be consumed," MPI said.

"There have been no reports of associated illness, however if you have consumed any of this product and have any concerns about your health, seek medical advice.

"High levels of mercury are harmful to the nervous system, immune system and kidneys, and can interfere with reproduction and development. People should consult their doctor if they are concerned that they may have been exposed to mercury."

Customers have been advised to return the product to Krishna Spices N Food for a full refund.
