Person dies after being hit by train in Canterbury

A person has died after being struck by a train in Canterbury this morning.

Police said the incident occurred on Mathias Street near the highway in Darfield at 7.15am.

State Highway 73 was closed but has since reopened.

The serious crash unit has been advised.
