Used to bad in-flight coffee? This airline thinks it's solved that

October 17, 2023

Alaska Airlines believes it's solved the problem behind coffee always tasting worse on planes.

CNN reports the US carrier has teams up with Portland-based roaster Stumptown to make a special brew for its flights.

The unique blend is meant to be immune from the effects of altitude, which can leave coffee tasting bitter and weak.

It's made to combat the extremely dry air and pressure of the cabin.

Alaska Air taste-tested the brew with milk and cookies to "ensure the best combination", with 20 different versions trialled on flights and with blind surveys before the winner was selected.

The blend will be exclusive to Alaska Air and its regional carrier Horizon Air.

It's been in development for 12 months, the airline said.
