Tech billionaire Elon Musk has congratulated incoming Prime Minister Christopher Luxon for his election victory, exclaiming "thank goodness" in a social media post.
Luxon celebrated victory on Saturday night after Labour leader Chris Hipkins conceded the election amid a significant shift towards the right in Parliament.
In response to a tweet by the National leader, Musk wrote: "Congratulations and thank goodness!"
Speaking on Breakfast, Luxon was asked about Musk's post this morning. He said he had not met the space billionaire.
He responded: "I don't know him personally."
It's not the first time a National MP has conversed with the SpaceX and Tesla CEO. Musk is also the owner of Twitter, now officially known as X.

In February, MP Shane Reti implored Musk to help aid cyclone recovery after parts of Hawke's Bay and the East Coast were cut off from the rest of the country.
Musk's company, SpaceX, operates the Starlink satellite internet service, which has been used to provide service to cut-off regions during natural disasters.
Reti also appealed to Musk after the devastating volcanic eruption and tsunami in Tonga nearly two years ago, when communications also broke down.
"To Elon Musk. You heard the call of myself and others and provided Starlink to Tonga in their time of need. Thank you,” Reti wrote.
"The time of need is now in NZ with the worst cyclone in a century. We need bulk shipment of several hundred terminals. Can you assist please."
In 2022, the National MP sent a letter to Musk asking for his help following the eruption and tsunami in Tonga.
