The New World Metro supermarket at Wellington's main train station is to close.
The supermarket has been a popular pit stop for commuters in the capital, but Foodstuffs North Island and the landlord have not been able to reach an agreement on a new lease.
The lease is up for renewal in June next year.
"While it’s business as usual well into next year at New World Railway Metro, we’ll be supporting the team all the way into roles in the wider Foodstuffs North Island group," a spokesperson said.
The announcement was met with sadness by some in the capital.
"Gutted it's the most convenient spot ever," one person said on the store's Facebook page.
"Gutted to hear that. Is a great store with a great selection, for such a small layout. Can’t see the location getting anything as good. Sad to hear about the loss for staff who work there."
