One person has died and two others have been injured after police responded to reports of a dog attack in Northland this afternoon.
Police and St John Ambulance staff were notified of the incident at an address on Otiria Rd in Moerewa around 4.40pm.
A police spokesperson said when officers arrived, one person was found dead. St John Ambulance said two other people were in a moderate condition.
A scene examination is currently underway, along with a post mortem examination. The death has been referred to the coroner.
"We can confirm there is no risk to the public in relation to this incident," police said.
A family member of the victim told RNZ that their aunt had been hanging out washing when a dog came onto the property and attacked her.
It is believed that the dog was shot by a neighbour before officers arrived.
