The South Island isn't the first-place people would associate with hip hop, but two Christchurch teens and their crew are changing that.
Josh Bautista and Oliver Sutherland, 16, have found their groove, going from strangers three years ago to National winners. Now they're heading to the global stage.
"I thought he was like 8 years old back then," Oliver cheekily told Seven Sharp.
They have their own special styles they bring to their performances as a hip-hop duo Taktik.
"I do swag, which is a very gangster type of style," Josh said.
"My main style is just like looking robotic and not from this world," Oliver said.
It's not just the Worlds Duo Competition Taktik is training for. They will also be popping and dropping with Mega Crew A1 from Ōtautahi's Ace studio, who are also Europe bound.
Ace Studio co-owner Natalya Hakena is excited about how far the crew has made it.
"It's only our second year open, so taking teams to Portugal is huge."
Before heading overseas, the team is training eight hours a week with Josh and Oliver doing 12.
"It's so awesome for our kids to be able to say we're representing New Zealand and we're from Christchurch," Ace Studio co-owner Keyana Beecroft said.
