An 80-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after a 78-year-old woman's death in the Bay of Plenty last night.
Police were called to Bayswater retirement village in Mount Maunganui shortly before 7pm.
A 78-year-old woman was found dead at the scene, a police spokesperson said.
The man is due to appear in court today.
In a statement, Metlifecare, who run Bayswater, said it was an "extremely sad incident" and extended condolences to the families of those involved.

"We are providing support to our other residents and staff who knew them and have engaged Victim Support to assist," a Metlifecare spokesperson said.
