The Silver Ferns are keeping coach Dame Noeline Taurua on, her contract extended until January 2024 in order to finish the international calendar.
Initially, Dame Noeline's contract was up after the tour test Constellation Cup, which starts on Thursday in Melbourne.
"It makes sense in my mind but also secondly it gives us a bit of space to know what that next process is going to look like," Taurua said.
Netball New Zealand boss Jennie Wyllie said the players were at the centre of the decision.
"It's crucial for the players to be able to have that consistency and certainty around who's going to be involved as they see the international calendar through."
The break between the Constellation Cup and January series is ideal, allowing Dame Noeline to decide what's next.
She said it's been a hectic year, with the Quad Series and World Cup both in South Africa, followed by the recent Taini Jamison Trophy.
"Getting that extra time is going to be fruitful and valuable for me, meaning that I do right by the sport."
Her tenure has been a mixed bag. She led New Zealand to World Cup glory in 2019 but left this year's pinnacle event without a medal.
Captain Ameliaranne Ekenasio said she is thrilled to have Dame Noeline stay on.
"We're rebuilding again after the World Cup and we feel like we're in a really good flow in how things are going, so wouldn't make any sense to have it any different way."
The Silver Ferns have to be at a different level to beat the World Champions. Thursday marks their first meeting since January, when Australia came out on top in the Quad Series final.
"We've got nothing to lose and all to gain," Dame Noeline said.
"That's the mentality. Really looking forward to playing against the best, that's what it's all about."
