Two people have died and one has suffered critical injuries after a serious crash near Temuka this morning.
Police were called to the scene near the intersection of Middleswamp Rd and Guild Rd, near Temuka, around 11.45am.
"Indications suggest three people have received critical injuries," police said.
In an update this afternoon, police confirmed two people had died while a third person remains in a critical condition in hospital.
St John Ambulance earlier said one person had been taken to Christchurch Hospital by helicopter.

The road has now reopened following an investigation by the serious crash unit.
"Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are under way."
