A man was rushed to hospital in critical condition and another taken into custody after an assault at an Auckland dairy this morning.
Police responded to reports of a stabbing at a dairy on New Windsor Rd just after 10.40am.
"A number of people in the store at the time intervened and managed to apprehend and restrain the offender," Auckland City CIB Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin said.
"They have also provided assistance to the injured man as well as a secondary victim, a woman, who also sustained injuries."
Both have been transported to Auckland Hospital, with the man now in a critical but stable condition and the woman stable.
A 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene and police say he will face multiple counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and resisting police.

"Police are still piecing together what exactly occurred at the dairy this morning, but we can advise we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this incident," Baldwin said in a statement this afternoon.
He said the attack was an isolated incident and reassured the community "the person responsible will be held to account".
Following the incident, a person told NZME he had been called and told his brother had been stabbed.
Neighbour Srini Singaraju told 1News he saw someone being carried from the dairy on a stretcher.
His daughter and her friends saw someone, covered in blood, running from the shop before being caught by police.
A block of shops including the dairy had been cordoned off by police.

Ratana Leng, who owns the nearby New Windsor Bakehouse, saw two police officers dragging a man out of the dairy around 11.30am before making an arrest.
Baldwin praised the community's actions during the violent attack, calling those who helped "courageous".
"In any situation, our advice is for the public to avoid putting themselves in danger, but we absolutely commend their bravery and courage in stepping in to assist this morning.
"There are some courageous people in our community, and their actions may well have saved the man's life."
Police acknowledged the attack "will undoubtedly impact on the victims and those involved for the rest of their lives", and said support would be provided to those involved.
