Motorcyclist dies after crashing into water near Rotorua

One person has died after crashing their motorcycle into the water near Rotorua.

Police say the incident occurred around 7pm, when two motorcyclists were riding on Hamurana Road in Okere Falls when one fell in the water.

The person received medical assistance but "passed away at the scene".

The road is now closed, and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

The serious crash unit is currently conducting a scene examination.
