Camera footage has captured the dramatic rescue of a baby locked inside a vehicle in 40C heat in Texas.

Police were called on Thursday after the child's panicked parents realised their baby and their car keys were still inside the SUV.

In the footage, the child's father can be seen smashing the car's windscreen with a tyre iron outside a supermarket in Harlingen.

The child was freed from the vehicle by the time officers arrived.
