One seriously injured after car and train collide in Wairarapa

A car and train collided near Carterton this morning, leaving one person trapped in their vehicle and seriously injured.

Emergency services were called to Norfolk Road around 10am.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said two trucks attended and crews worked to free the trapped person. A helicopter was also sent to the scene.

Police said one person had serious injuries.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
