Three people have died following a two-car crash in Sefton, North Canterbury, yesterday evening.
The accident happened on Main North Rd about 6.50pm last night, police say.
One person from each of the vehicles died at the scene, with a third person being rushed to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.
That person died in hospital overnight.
It comes after two other people died in the area on Friday when a car and a school bus collided.
"This is an incredibly sad blow to not only the families of the deceased but to all those affected in a small community — which includes the attending emergency services, some of whom would have attended both crashes," Canterbury Rural Area Commander Inspector Peter Cooper said.
While the crashes are still under investigation, Cooper said there were poor weather conditions on Saturday.
He called the accidents a "very sad reminder to people of the importance of taking care every single time you get behind the wheel".
