Body found in search for overdue mountain biker in Whangamatā

A body has been found today in the search of an overdue mountain biker near Whangamatā.

Police search and rescue and volunteers had been searching through the night for the mountain biker after they were reported overdue at 1.30am.

"Our thoughts are with the person’s family and friends at this difficult time," a police spokesperson said.

"Police would like to thank everyone who assisted with the search efforts."

The death will be referred to the coroner.
